I need help, seriously.

Bought this Pavilion 6 months ago, had barely touched it. Finally started
using it...I am still a novice after all these years.

I was running into ALL KINDS of Vista Problems, Kep;t calling HP, finally
tried Chat and Email with Microsoft

Microsoft scanned for my Product ID and said they the one they found was not
right so I typed in the one I had and DON'T you know it, the second series of
Letters were OEM!

WINDOWS VISTA (TM) HOME PREMIUM OEMAct
Product KEY
a-t o t a l -o f -2 7- n u m b e r s

Can Anyone tell me HOW THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH THIS?
When I go to Systems to find my Product ID, there is a Logo and a link
OFFERIING ME A DIFFEREND PRODUCT KEY!

Any Help would be much obliged,
Thanks, Zeke

Hi Zeke,

All support for your HP system comes from HP, not Microsoft. You need to
contact them with any issues. That is the OEM agreement HP has with
Microsoft. Your system was probably installed with a Product Key different
than the one on the system sticker, that one would only be used for a
reinstallation.

Get away with what?

Software and hardware manufacturers have been making OEM versions of their
products forever. This gives the system builders, such as HP, Dell and
anyone else, the product at a substantial discount which is passed on to
you, the consumer. One requirement is that the system builder is required to
handle any tech support for the product, which is why the manufacturer can
offer the huge discount.
