oem install on new hard drive

Guest

I recently installed a new hard drive on my Advent 3209 uk with win xp home
Appears that Some critical files failed to be copied to the Windows\System32
folder during the installation of SP1 (shlwapi.dll and msgina.dll among
them). This has happened before from what I gather. it appears to be related
to sp1 and not win xp home ..

After installation it starts by saying “ the application has failed to
start because comdlg32.dll was not foundâ€
I click enter and then it goes “The logon user interface dll msgina failed
to loadâ€
Click on restart…
Have tried to fix manually without success
cheers

I suspect your problem relates to the OEM disc having been modified in some
way by Advent. This is an ever-increasing problem with OEMs thinking they'll
do some intensive 'branding' to Windows before they install it, and not
checking that what they're doing is compatible with other software like
service-packs.

Probably your best course of action is to beg, buy or borrow a genuine OEM
home disc.
