OE6 will only dial out on second attempt

I have a peculiar problem. I am running OE6 in XP Home with a dial up
internet connection. When I click on "Send and Receive" while off line, OE6
brings up the dialup connection window tries to dial and says it is unable
to do so. If I then click on "connect", the second attempt proceeds
flawlessly. What causes this behavior and how can I change it?

Switch off the option to autodial and then you can select "connect" the
first time around.

Also you need to go to Tools/Accounts... choose the "Mail" tab across the
top.
Then highlight your dial up connection and click properties.

Then reset your recently changed password.

The autodial is using the entered password, but when you type it in it is
the correct one.....you see!

Then retype your recently changed password.

The autodial is using the previously entered password, but when you type it
in, on the second attempt you are telling the sever the correct one.....you
see!
