OE to Outlook questions

We are thinking of using Outlook (2000) rather than OE because we
would like to filter on message headers, but have some questions:-



Can I decide where the email cabinet is to be located in Outlook as
in OE so that I can get at it?

Yes, you can move your PST file to wherever you want, with Outlook closed,
and then open Outlook and point it at the correct file.

I use E-backup to BU my OE system on a schedule - is there a similar
program for Outlook?

There's a Personal Folders Backup utility available for Outlook.

Can I collect my Hotmail in Outlook and how do I configure it?

Depends on your version - not natively possible in OL2000 and prior.

Can I use Newsgroups in Outlook and how do I do it?

No - Outlook isn't a newsreader - it launches OE when you want to read news.

Can I share my email system by having the cabinet on my server?

No, not unless you have Exchange server. See
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/share.htm. Note also that MS does not
support/recommend accessing a PST file from a network drive (same as in OE,
although Outlook will let you *do* it) - it can cause all sorts of problems.

Yes.

Yes and it's similar to how you do it in Outlook Express.

No. Outlook Express is used by Outlook to read newsgroup.

Yes. However, it's not called a "cabinet", it's called a "Personal Folders
file".
