OE Files Salvage (I hope)

My computer blew up (Pentium 4) but the hard drive is intact. I put the HD
into another computer (AMD) but can't get in to boot because the HD has
WinXP Pro on it (XP won't boot because of a different system (AMD vs P4)).
So I installed Windows 2000 on to the AMD hoping to get at my email (OE6).
Where are these files on the hard drive and what are names of the files? I
am hoping to salvage my email. Any help is appreciated.

I am not sure but, I had a similar experience, trashed
hard drive, etc. When I could not fix my computer in a
timely manner, I used my friends with WIN98SE. To get my
email all I had to do was access my email through my ISP.
The only email I lost was the ones I deleted or saved to
my documents and did not leave a copy in OE. The ones you
save usually are saved in My Documents. I hope this helps.

Horace,

This is not an AMD vs P4 issue; however, to gain access to your information:
Slave your drive to the AMD system, then use this process to gain access to
your registry:

From an account with Administrator level access

1) Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT
2) In Regedit, highlight the HKEY_USERS key and go to File, Load Hive.
3) Use the File Open dialog to go to the Documents and Settings\<username>
folder, where <username> is the account you wish to modify.
4) Highlight the NTUSER.DAT file in this folder (usually a hidden file) and
select Open.
5) You'll be prompted to enter a "Key name". You can use whatever you wish,
but I use the User's logon name.
6) You can now expand the Hive you just loaded and make any needed changes.
7) When finished, highlight this Hive again and go to File, Unload Hive.

NOTE: You MUST unload the Hive prior to logging on to the users account.
Otherwise XP may have trouble loading the user's profile.

Export all needed files in your case these:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Account Manager
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WAB\WAB4\Wab File Name

And save them to floppy. Once you get your new system or reformat this
drive, import these four keys. Note: Back them up either way and place
this hard drive in the new system and give it a go. It works most time as
compared to having to delete the enum key in other Win9x systems. Other
than that, add a new drive and slave this one for all of your other needed
files, etc.

BTW, is best to keep a shared (separate) partition for your mail store and
all installed programs, then if Windows needs to be reinstalled, you are up
and running in no time.

Good luck!

Thanks to all that replied. After reading through PA's links I was able to
transfer all the *.dbx files to another partition and import them into
Outlook Express.
