Odd things since Oct 6

I've had a number of calls about XP acting strange. Both calls happend
Oct 6 and are causing the computers to behave erratic. These are total
strangers to each other who basically now have XP only functioning when
in Safemode...

Many apps no longer work, files are no longer accessable... odd...

Anybody else seen this all of a sudden?
