ODBC(Open Database Connectivity)errors

I am running XP Professional SP2, which has been loaded in the last couple of
weeks to replace an existing windows copy. I have found that my Photoshop
Elements Program will not let me access the Organizer section which contains
all my photo's etc.. A message: There was a problem opening the
catalog....The ODBC data source reported the error(internal error: data not
found)
The only other option available to me is to repair the windows ODBC drivers,
by apparently deleting the SP2 from add/delete programs, then inserting the
windows disc and selecting the upgrade option.
My dilemma is that SP2 is part of my windows program not an add on, so I
can't delete that seperately. If I insert the windows disc, where on it do I
find the upgrade option. Any help appreciated.

Within Elements are you able to open the Catalogue and do a repair?
(File>Catalogue>Recover)
- sometimes holding the shift key enables you to open the catalogue -

Hi "DL"
I have tried to open organizer, but it still comes up with error message. It
then comes up with catalogue recovery completely successful, but I still
can't open the catalogue. It won't let me do anything with organizer.

Do you have Access installed on your PC?
Are you successfully able to create a new catalogue?

Have you run MS Update, custom, does it give any MDAC updates?

Sorry been out, had to get away from damn computer!
Access is installed now.
I can create a new catalogue but can't open it under Photoshop Organizer.
Ms update, custom does not give MDAC updates and all priority updates are
loaded.
I went into Microsoft download centre and had a look at driver downloads,
can I download the MDAC 2.8 for my computer, I am running XP Prof SP2, or is
there another one more suitable.
Thanks for your help.

Ok I downloaded the component checker but where do I find it on the system to
run. Urrggg

That would be testing my memory :)
It downloads to wherever your default download directory is, unless you've
changed it, its with Documents & Settings\username\ grouping
cc_pkg.exe is the installer
When run it installs into a folder with the following files; cc.exe -
cc.xml - comcheck.chm, from recollection no program group shortcut is added.

Hi DL

Still having lots of trouble opening WGAplugin. I did a search of computer
and is located in c:/windows/pchealth/prefetch
When I click on this folder it contains a whole heap of "PF" files including
my Photoshop organizer. When I click on any of them a message comes up
"windows cannot open file, windows needs to know what program created it, use
the web or select from program list.
Do you think it is time to get a technician around to help?

What I had to do was internet explorer instead of firefox to download the
component checker and I managed to run it no problems.
Not sure where I am looking now, but in the results there were odbc 32 dll
and others - run version 3.510.4202.0, not sure where to locate the mdac
version.
Now where do I look.
Thanks for your help.

When you initially start the Component Checker, there is a selectable
option, which allows the checker to determine the version of MDAC installed,
once selected and run this shows your current version.
You then can run the checker against the selected version you determined in
the first process.
Then you will see any missmatched (Versions) files.

odbc32 v3.510.4202.0 is I believe from MDAC 2.1 sp2
That being the case you need to update MDAC and possibly JET
Have you run MS Update, custom mode, and checked for ignored updates?

MDAC 2.8 is the latest for Winxp
MDAC2.8sp1 contains components installed with winxp sp2 update

Ok DL version is MDAC 2.8 SP1 on windows XP SP2

mismatched version files are:
MSADCO.DLL EXPECTED VERSION 2.81.1117.0
msxm13.dll EXPECTED VERSION 8.50.2162.0

I have run Ms update, custom mode and checked the other updates.

How easy is it to update MDAC

Thanks
