ODBC Connection to Oracle database is very slow

I have an Access application that uses some Oracle tables as part of the back
end. Using the ms odbc connection for Oracle it takes 7 seconds to open the
connection and access the Oracle data for each Oracle request.

It did speed up things to leave the connection open during Form Load until
all the data was retrieved for the form. However the initial 7 second delay
is still causing respoinse time issues.

Is there any way to speed up this connection in Access? Licensing issues
prevent leaving the connection open while the application is open.
