My system hangs on occasions. I haven't yet found a pattern to link it with
any particular application of device.
Some of the system specs are:
- XP Pro with full auto Windows Updates
- 3.2GHz P4 (not over clocked) on 800FSB motherboard
- 1GB dual channel DDR400 RAM
- OS on an 80GB ATA disk with 9GB free space in boot partition
- data files on separate 200GB SATA disk
- wireless keyboard (connected via PS2 KB socket)
- wireless mouse on Wacom graphics tablet (via USB)
- all software registered (no hack or peer to peer)
I have noticed that the Wacom tablet will go off line briefly when the hang
begins. About 10 or 20 seconds after the onset of this problem, the system
will usually come back sufficiently for me to shut the applications down, and
Windows will save it's settings, but Windows will not shut down fully,
necessitating the reset button. It's not a case of non responding
applications.
I have tried
- I have de-selected disk indexing service
- all disks defragmented
- 3 passes through Memtest86+ returned no errors
- power supply over rated
- virus protection up to date and full scan
- spyware cleaned regularly
- Registry Mechanic clean of the Registry
- the Task Monitor doesn't point to the problem
I also have checked the Administrative Tools => Event Viewer => System. This
shows an Error for two services loaded by the Service Control Manager at
startup. On checking the properties of these two events, I can determine the
following.
1. Event = 7000
The Kseatek service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified
2. Event also = 7000
The Aelldm service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the specified file
I have followed the links to the Microsoft web site, but there is no
solution provided.
My question are:
- will the above mentioned errors cause system instability?
- how do I fix this ( file search shows they don't exist as separate files)
- is there a likely cause of my particular symptoms
any particular application of device.
