Obscene pop ups and cannot delete unwanted applications

Guest

Please help. When I'm on the internet I keep getting unwanted sexually explicit popups. I have now discovered that I have shortcuts on my desktop that seem to be activating these popups. I have traced the applications in my Windows folder but I am unable to delete due to access being denied

Please can someone tell me how I can get rid of all these unwanted applications and prevent from getting re-infected

Thank you

Jill;
Apparently someone has accessed those sites on your computer and allowed
the sites to install malware.
Try SpyBot Search and Destroy and it may remove them and in the future,
be more careful of the sites you visit :)
If SpyBot doesn't get rid of it , then try AdAware ( search www,google.com
for these programsd), both are good programs. ( good also meaning free)

Thank you for info

I have tried your solution and even though the software found problems, I have still got 2 applications in my C:\WINDOWS folder that I am unable to delete as it comes up with the following message 'Cannot delete Findsex: Access Denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

I have tried making my WINDOWS folder read/write but I still cannot delete these files

Also, when I restart pc the two applications create shortcuts on my desktop. Therefore, being very apparent to my children

Please can anyone suggest what I can do to delete these files.

Hi Jill,

Download the following utilities, use with care, as some entries
detected by Hijack This are legitimate, before you remove something
you are not sure about, ask the experts.

I would begin with ad-aware and spybot, if still no joy, then Hijack
This and finally CWshredder.

Download, install and update the
spyware removers from the links below. Run both of them.

Ad-aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Spybot S&D
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=download

You can also download Hijack This from here:
http://www.mjc1.com/files/merijn/hijackthis.exe
Go here:
http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/

For instructions on how to use it; you have to post the log it
produces so experts tell you what is good and what is malware

If these don't correct the problem, then get yourself a copy of
BHODemon, available at
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm .

It does not need installing - simply unzip and run the EXE program. It
is easy to use. It will find the hijackware DLL files, and give you
the ability to disable them.

Download the utility CWshredder:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

Unzip - close *all* instances of IE & OE, hit the executable and
follow the prompts.

Hope this helps.

Jill;
Reboot to Safe Mode and try it.
Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.

Jill;
If you are uncomfortable using the programs recommended without having
previous experience with them, there is a site you can go to get competent
assistance. See the link below.

Hope this helps.

If you are a brave sort, run regedit, click on edit, find, type in the file
name that you want to find, in this case "findsex" (without the quotation
marks,) and then click find next. delete any entries that appear for that
file name. then click on edit, find next, and continue until all those
entries are deleted.
Hope this solves the problem for you.

Greetings --

When visiting porn sites, always be careful not to
download/install their "free" viewers. You'll get more than expected,
every time. To repair the current situation, uninstall the
"viewer(s)" provided and then use Ad-Aware from www.lavasoft.de and
SpyBot Search and Destroy from www.safer-networking.org/ to clean up
any residue. Both have free versions for personal use.

You should also try using MSConfig to see if something is being
started each time you reboot.

Additionally, Look in the C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up and C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up folders, and in the
system registry, primarily in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.
