Obnoxious Auto-function "Helpful" Icons

I have tried to remove the obnoxious Auto-correct
functions in Excel. (I am referring to the pop-up icons
that prompt you for assistance you didn't need nor wan,
like Autofill Format). Another annoyance is the cut and
paste windows that pops up and takes away half of the
screen.

I have disabled the Autocorrect functions and set the
display to none. Still these "helpful" icons and corner
tabs continue to show up.

I know the folks at Microsoft thought they were being
helpful, and probably a bit clever as well, but these pop-
ups really annoy the seasoned user and get in the way of
productive use of the program.

How can I eliminate all of the auto-functions and in
process help?

Thanks in advance

To turn off the smart tags feature:

1. Choose Tools>Options
2. Select the Edit tab
3. Remove the check marks from 'Show Paste Options buttons'
and 'Show Insert Options buttons'.
4. Click OK
