Objects linked from Excel to Word print blacked or greyed out

I can see the table that I linked from Excel to Word but it prints a black
box. It reminds me of the red "X" a few versions ago.

The printer has plenty of memory. Even printing the word file to Adobe PDF
writer results in a blacked out object for anything linked to the excel file.
Are there print settings for Excel that could correct this? When I open a
blank excel file, it works okay.

HELP!
 
A couple of things.
Has it ever worked with your current printer?
If not, even though your printer may have enough memory installed, are the
printer settings set to recognize the correct amount of memory. This would
depend on the type of printer you have.
I am assuming the that the link is still active. If so, you may try
breaking the link and see how it prints.
As you know active links do require a large amount of memory both from the
computer and the printer.
