How unfortunate for you.

Which "numerous aliases" would that be, by the way, and what evidence do
you have to support your ludicrous insinuation?

er... never mind, sweet andi-ludicrous.

John!
Nice one.
I intend re posting your post
to aus.politics.
Here in Australia the "first blush" of this behaviour is appearing.
I have an unlisted 'phone number.
The Taxi Co are not impressed when I won't give it to them so they can find the address.
My mum has a listed phone number.
She dials for a cab, not a word spoken and the cab arrives!
l.
Oh, you have phones in OZ now, do ya?

Okay, you don't know me from Adam, so just to clarify...I was kidding.

However, I visited NSW(Sydney & the Blue Mtns) about 5 years ago & it
was rather nostalgic to see all the TV antennas...has cable taken over
yet?

Nope. about 15%, the rest are actively ignoring it.
People just don't seem interested, they don't even care to get
all the extra digital-high-definition-wide-screen-surround-sound
channels available through those free-to-air antennas.

Of the 3 billions seconds you live , and the 1 billion or so
you have some control over , what is a reasonable
number to waste watching TV ?

I'm in the most beautiful city in the world (Sydney), and have never
seen any real reason to get cable TV. There's too many other things
to do than sit in front of the idiot box. If there's nothing worth
watching on the 5 free-to-air channels, then it's cheaper to hire a
video/DVD than pay the AU$49.95p/m access to cable.

Also, us Aussies hate being tied into things such as paying a
connection fee & then being forced into a one year upwards contract
for something that probably won't be used that much. The only reason
I would ever look at getting cable is to upgrade from my internet
dial-up, but again I don't want to get tied into a contract and I'm
happy with what I've got at the moment (for my usage it's not worth
the extra cost). If the cost comes down & there's no ties, then I'll
probably consider it.

However, I can understand why cable's so big overseas - they've got
long cold Winters to get through. I've lived in Sydney for 38 years,
and I can't recall it ever being less than 5 or 6 degrees Celsius in
the coastal region, even in the coldest snaps (for the dinosaurs,
that converts to 41-43 Farenheit). I even recall that several years
ago I was travelling on the Manly ferry, it was early August (think
early February for Northern hemispherers) and a Canadian tourist
could not believe that it was 18 degrees Celsius (64F)in the daytime
during the coldest part of the year, and that it was in no way
unusual. He said that he was going to apply to emigrate immediately.
So, even in the middle of Winter people are still out and about
doing other stuff. At the moment I'm watching Al Roker on TV (yes -
we get the Today show), and I'm starting to shiver just seeing the
temperatures the USA is copping at the moment.

So, yes, you can have a laugh at our "primitive" technology, but you
can also be jealous of the beautiful, free, warm country that we live
in called Down-Under.

Well, I'm quite aware that Aussies are enamored with their
country...especially when outsiders criticize it. I remember
mentioning that I thought the roads were poor compared to the USA & my
Oz friend had a fit defending his country.
I'm not going to get into the merits of the USA vs Oz, but I will say
that I think if you got a cable modem you'd never want to go back to
dialup.

Well, I'm certainly envious. It's -26C (windchill -38C) at the moment,
going down to -29C (windchill -44C) tonight, here in Ottawa, Canada.
And it's been colder over the past week.

Cheers from Dingo Dropping Corner (The Great Brown South).

Actually it is just a lull, waiting for another run at 44C, in the shade,
56C in the sun.
