In Computer Management > Display adapters , I have NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
listed twice.

Does anyone know why that would be ?

Should I take any action ?

I don't know why it's listed twice, but my advice is, if you are not having
a problem leave it alone.

To put it another way - If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I have to update it for Windows 7 compatibility.

I downloaded the latest driver install package from nvdea's website.

I installed it by running the .exe

About 2/3 of the way through I got the pop-up box :

RunDLL

Error in C:\Windows\system32\NVCPL.DLL
Missing entry:ExportOEMDefaults

but then I ultimately got a driver successfully installed message in the
InstallShield dialog.

Has my driver been successfully installed ?

Did you try installing a Win7 driver for your 8600 on a non Win7 system?
If yes get the latest driver for your OS from the Nvidia Website and install
it instead.

The driver I downloaded from nVIDIA's website is for 32-bit Vista and 32-bit
Windows 7 :

186.81_notebook_win7_winvista_32bit_international_whql.exe

Both instances are the same driver version, both are enabled, both are
working properly.

It's a "gaming" laptop. The SLI in the name should be a dead give away that
it has a dual Nvidia GPU.

Not sure what the point of a gaming laptop is. Once you load up a game to
take advantage of SLI the battery life will take a nose dive without a power
outlet to plug into.
