nvidia gamma correction won't "stick"

For some reason the color correction (specifically,
gamma) settings I want to brighten my display
won't "stick" and load at startup despite choosing
the "load these settings at startup" box. Help!

use the brightness / contrast on your monitor - using the buttons usually
found on the front.

Very funny. The monitor is too dark overall, so I need
to use the gamma correction to brighten it more than the
monitor can on its own.
