Nvidia FX5500 PCI 256MB lost on shutdown

I just purchased a NVIDIA FX5500 PCI video card. I disabled the old
on board system, loaded the drivers, put in the card, and it worked.
Great, huh?

Now every time I shut down the computer, I lose the card and is not
recognized. It is fine if it is only a restart, but if I turn the
machine off I lose the card. It is no longer showing in the device
manager, and I have to plug the monitor into the old onboard plug just
to see anything. If I reseat the card, and restart the computer, I
get it back, but I don't want to have to do that everytime I want to
use the card. Can anyone help?

I am currently running XP home, and I have the newest NVIDIA drivers
loaded. My computer is a DELL Dimension E310.

You Know Who ~

Is this in the same slot as your old card. If not, check your bios to make
sure the boot is with the new card.

The questions comes up as to how you disabled the onboard video
card...........In the BIOS?? or just under Device Manager??
You should also uninstall the drivers for the onboard video.

You may want to try replacing the CMOS battery on the motherboard. It
sounds like it may be defaulting back to onboard video after power off.

Try going into the bios and setting the primary VGA to PCI. I had th
same problem with an nVidia FX5200 and this was the solution. Jess
