NVidia and Vista Q

I have an NVidia Geforce 4 Ti4200 card that Vista automatically installed a
Microsoft driver for during Vista install. The driver seems to be working
fine but when I went into Performance and Tuning it said that the driver was
causing a slow down and to install the manufacturer's driver.

So I downloaded the 88.61 Vista Driver that is compatible with my card only
to get an error during install that says:

=====================================================
NVidia Setup Error - The NVidia setup program could not locate any drivers
that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now Exit.
=====================================================

Unfortunately NVidia isn't providing any support for Vista drivers because
of the Beta status.

I was just curious whether there is a trick to installing the NVidia driver
or if anyone else has experienced the same?

I doubt if nVidia is making any attempt at all to make their Vista drivers
support your card, since it is not 'Vista ready'.

Use the drivers that you originally loaded with Vista. Tried the same thing
you did with 88.61 from the Nvidia site, and it is slightly to seriously
unstable in its present form

I didn't read it was compatible, I simply went to NVidia driver download
section and selected my card then under that I selected Vista x86 as the OS
and it pointed to the driver in question.

Also the release notes and their support KB mention non-support for only GF2
series and earlier, no mention of non-support for GF4 although I am beginning
to question that based on the reponces here and other readings.
