Numeric format

In a word table, I'd like to highlight a column and change the format like I
can do in word perfect. ie change to %, 2 decimal places, cash etc. Can you
do that? Thanks.

You can select a column and apply formatting, yes, but not numeric
formatting as in Excel. You can, however, set a decimal tab, and numbers
automatically will align on the first non-numeric character (other than the
thousands separator).

How do you do that. I have a table with dollar amounts ($3, $4, and $8 for
example) and wanted to sort them from lowest to highest, but wasn't sure if I
had to format that column to be numbers or wil text work. Also, I wanted to
have the $ inserted automatically and nubers lined up, like in WP, when
numeric formatting.

You can sort them without any special formatting. Use Table | Sort, specify
the correct column, and tell Word to sort by number. To insert a decimal
tab, you can use the ruler or the Tabs dialog; see

You could always setup the table in Excel with all the formatting and
calculations that application allows and link the table to Word.
