Numbers alignment when emailing

I have a word document with numbers and information with each number.
However, when I send the document to different people, each person has a
different content for each number. Not a huge difference, but still a
difference. Ex.
1. cat
2. dog
3. mouse

Next person will see
1. dog
2. mouse

How can I get the numbers to correlate with the contents for each person?

What happened to the cat? Are you saying the document looses one whole
paragraph from the time you save it to the moment the recipient opens it
on his machine?
