Numbering table rows consecutively (PPT)

How do I insert consecutive numbering to table rows in powerpoint? I have
been unable to get the numbering to run consecutively as every time I insert
the numbering in a row it reverts to number 1. It does not run ie: 1, 2, 3,
4. Thank you.
