Number of unread message in Public Folder List not showing

Outlook 2002
Folder List/Public Folders/All Public Folders
Public folders listed under "All Public Folders" do not show the number of
unread messages.
Deleted Items, Inbox, etc., do show the number of unread messages in
parentheses, but the public folders do not. Is this the way it is?
(Putting a public folder in the Outlook Bar does show the number of unread
messages, but a user wants to only have the folder list open)

Unless you add a public folder to your favorites it will not show the
number of unread items.
