Hello a coworker asked me this question today and I
didn't know the answer so I thought I'd ask here. Can
someone tell me the maximum number of processors (both
physical and hyperthreaded) that XP will support? Same
with Windows 2003 Server?

Thanks in advance.

Windows XP Home supports 1 processor only, but it can be
hyperthreaded.

Windows XP Pro supports 1 or 2 processors, and both can be
hyperthreaded.

I cannot say for certain what the limits are in Server 2003.

Hi Claude, thanks for the info. For Windows Server 2003
is that for both normal and HT processors? So that
Windows 2003 Server Data Center would see 64 processors
if they were HT?

Cheers,

XP Pro 2
HP Home 1

these being physical chips, that can be hyperthreaded, giving double the
number of virtual processors.

2003 - depends on version. Up to 8 at least
