number of messages in folders not updating unless clicked upon- also, Microsoft LDAP Directory pro

OK, I have Outlook Express 2003, and I am having some trouble with it.
For one thing, as soon as the program starts up, I get a strange
message as follows-

Micorsoft LDAP Directory

Server name- NULL

Port- xxxx

Username- NULL

Password- (blank field)

Use Secure Password Authentication (SPA) (checkbox)

OK CANCEL APPLY

Seeing as it pops up everytime I start OE, I was wondering how to get
rid of it.

SECONDLY, and probably more importanty, is the number of messages in
folders do not updating unless the older is clicked upon. In my older
vrsion of Outlook Express, it showed the number of new messages next
to my inbox, junk-email, etc, as soon as OE started up. Now, it shows
the last number of new messages, but if you want the new current tally
of new messages, you have to click on that folder which you want to
see. This is extremtly annoying. I think it has something to do with
the LDAP message that always comes up, so therefre it can't update the
tally corectly. by the way, I use Hotmail. Thanks for any help to
these two problems.

Hi - there's no Outlook Express 2003. There's Outlook 2003, and there's
Outlook Express - totally separate programs. Which one are you using?

Sounds like you need to check what mail accounts you have set up in this
identitiy in OE, if that's what you're using. Also note:

This is a group to support Outlook from the Office group of programs.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and is a quite different
program, despite its similar name..

You will probably get a faster and more expert answer if you post this to an
Outlook Express news group.

Try posting in one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.outlookexpress.mac for OE for Macintosh

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups).

If you're accessing the Microsoft newsgroups through the MS Product Support
Services Community Newsgroups web interface, click
http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp?icp=InternetExplorer
to get to the Internet Explorer groups, then click the plus sign next to
your version of IE to see the link to the Outlook Express group for that
version number.

A good website for information on OE is:

1. There is no such beast as Outlook Express 2003. You are either using
Outlook 2003, or Outlook Express version 6. Check Help->About for the
correct version.

If you are using Outlook Express, try posting this in an Outlook Express
news group - this is not one of them.

Outlook is a part of Microsoft Office and is what this group supports.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and has its own news groups.

MVp's-
My problem was solved. And for anyone else having thid same sort of
problem, heres how to fix it. (Also, I DO have Outlook 20030 my
mistake)...

(I use Hotmail, routed to Outlook, so your settings may be different.)

1) Go to Tools- Send Recieve- Send Redieve Settings- Define Send
Recieve Groups
2) Select the account you are using. Click EDIT after your account is
selected.
3) From this point, you will see the folders you have on the Internet
version of your e-mail provider- Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items,
ETC. Select the ones that you want syncronized to your account
automatically at Outlook startup.

Just as a note, either by Hotmail defaulyt or Outlook default, the
only folder that was automatically suncronized with a SEND/Recieve was
my Inbox. Thats why I had to click on the Junk Mail and my other
personal online folders so that the tally would update.

Thanks everyone.
