NUMBER LOCK

When I boot up my computer, the number look is NOT on.

I wish to have the number lock ON when I boot up.

I am sure it has something to do with the REGEDIT routine.

Will someone please make this work for me???

Thank you,

I wish I had anwered sooner -- I'm NOT a big fan of doing a registy hack --
you change this feature in your comptuers BIOS (usually hitting <Del> or
<Esc> on startup) -- you change the NumLock starup option there!

Why? That answer wouldn't have helped.

WinXP, like its predecessors WinNT and Win2K, by design, ignores
the BIOS settings for the NumLock key as a standard security feature.
(I'm afraid I can't remember the "security" issue initially addressed.)
By default, the NumLock key is turned off as WinXP starts, and keeps
it off until someone logs in and initializes a user profile. WinXP will
remember the NumLock's last state, meaning that if you log out with the
NumLock on, it will automatically turn on the next time you log in; If
you log out with the NumLock off, it will be off the next time you log in.

If one needs the NumLock on _before_ logging in, a registry edit
can be used to change WinXP's default behavior:

I spoke too soon, as my problem is NOT fixed...I opened regedit, changed the
default KEYBOARDdDELAY (under contol panel)from 2 to 0, then reopened
windows...it worked only once,,,problem still NOT fixed!!
?
SO< IS IT POSSIBLE TO ENABLE THE NUMLOCK

i did all of this...to no avail..i even moved the file to the startup folder,
etc.

for some reason, the setting in the regeditor remains at 2 under control
panel/keyboard/initial keyboard editors..

in other words, the microsoft website, although seemingly the correct rsvp,
does not appear to work.

what could I be doing wrong??

thanks

The program WORKS.... BUT i wish to have the numlock enabled BEFORE windows
asks for user password...NOT after.

I take you have read KB ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/154529)
To enable NUM LOCK before a user logs on, use the steps below.

1. Run Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. Navigate to HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard.
3. Change the value for InitialKeyboardIndicators from 0 to 2.

Also try change value for "current user"
To enable NUM LOCK before a user logs on, use the steps below.
1. Run Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. Navigate to HKEY_Current_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard.
3. Change the value for InitialKeyboardIndicators from 0 to 2.

You mentioned changing keyboard delay. Was that a typo? No refernce to
change that value.

I have done all of that...however, when I lof OFF, the NUMLOCK goes off.

It stays off when I boot up the computer...therefore I must hit the numlock
key so that i can use my password.

This is the step I am trying to avoid...I wish to keep the numlock indicator
"ON" at all times.

NOTE: Could the reason that the procedures are not working be attributable
to the fact that I am using a laptop with my keyboard attached via usb
interface???

You did change "Current User? Do this for all login accounts. I messed around
with it and finally got it to work. I had no luck with vbscript. Are you
using administrator account?

YOU WERE CORRECT...finally, i went to regedit...USER...CURRENT USER...etc.

I am the only user...

ANYWAY...SUCCESS

Thank you
