#NUM! Error in linked table (excel)

Hello,
Ms ACCESS 03 / EXCEL 03 on XP PRO.

I have a linked table that looks at an excel table and one field has
numerical data in it. I believe it has to be actual numerical data. Anyway,
when I look at the table itself inside access the values when not null are
#NUM!.

What causes this?
