When I start my laptop a Command promt window opens up and in the title
bar it says "svchost.exe", then a error message pops-up - "ntvdm has
performed a illegal instruction".

The machine has just when trough a xp repair and Service pack 2 has
been installed.
How can i get rid of this message?

- What is the exact command you run when opening a Command Prompt?
- What happens when you run this command:
%SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe
(you must type in everything!)

Everything works on the computer.

Its just when the svchost.exe is loading something the error message
comes up.

its nothing that i'm trying to run its windows its self.

It is an error from your nVidia video drivers...time to update them...

The regular XP file, svchost.exe is not a 16-bit program and should have
nothing to do with ntvdm.exe. There is also a svchost.exe file that is
malware.

Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

Update whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.
