When I try to start my computer I get a message that I am
missing ntldr. Sometimes it starts if I put in a restore
disk in A: drive and Word for Windows. I made a emergency
start disk but it doesn't seem to work. How can I get my
ntldr file back again. Help and thanks

If the hard disk is accessible and the file is in fact missing, you can
restore it one of a few ways. You can copy the file from another Win.
2000 machine via a floppy and restore by booting from a DOS bootable
disk if you are using FAT32 partitions, or the Win. 2000 CD's recovery
console if you are using NTFS partitions. Another alternative would be
a fast repair Windows by booting from the Win. 2000 CD, but the first
method is much faster and easier.

Go to a friend's Win2K machine and:
1. Format at floppy on that machine very important!
2. Copy the following files from his machine to the floppy:
a. NTLDR
b. NTDETECT.COM
c. BOOT.INI
3. If necessary, edit BOOT.INI to tell where NTOSKRNL.EXE lives.
(Note: Partitions are numbered starting with 1. Everything else starts at
0.)
4. Boot from the floppy on your machine.
5. If it works, copy the files to your C:. One of them must have been
missing.
6. Otherwise, your C: must be in accessible. It's not likely that it
crashed, but you need to check cables, run a hardware inventory program to
see that the disk controller is present, etc.
