ntldr says it's missing after being copied

On boot, I received the "ntldr is missing" message that so
many of us have seen before. I copied the requisite files
from a floppy to the c: drive, restarted and still got the
same message. I made a boot floppy as directed and
received the "non-system disk" error. From the recovery
console, running fixboot finished without incident, but
chkdsk told me that the machine has "unrecoverable errors"
on it. Is my hard drive hosed?

Download and run the diagnostic program that your hard
disk manufacturer makes available on his web site.
