with reference to the above, as I don't see the repair install, so I use
'warning #2"
after copying the i386 files, I typed in

1. attrib -h -r -s C:\boot.ini del C:\boot.ini

"but I get the message that the parameter is not valid. Try /? for help".
There is no mistake in my typing and I just wonder if someone can help.
As I am unable to get over #1, I have not issue the #2 command which is below

2. Type: BootCfg /Rebuild

Other detail; Toshiba Labtop, with XP Home, "fixboot" does not help

Many thanks

Hello,

attrib -h -r -s C:\boot.ini del C:\boot.ini

That looks like a typo on that page. Should be two separate commands:

attrib -h -r -s C:\boot.ini
{press Enter}

del C:\boot.ini
{press Enter}

Prior to reading your post, so after copying the i386 files and I reboot the
pc. Its reboot (with a message) and manage to get to desktop. As it is the
boot sequence is set as cd rom/hdd/floppy
The message is 'invalid boot.ini and boot from c:\windows' and it goes to
desktop.

So I decided it should boot from hdd disk and when I change the
sequence,hdd/cd/ the pc cannot boot up. It gives me a blank screen with the
mouse indicating some process going on 9by changing of hour glass) but
nothing appears.

If I change it back to cd rom/hdd, its ok and it will go to desktop. Any
idea why? Should I still go to the Recovery console and put in the last 2
commands, the attribute and the delete boot. Thanks

Hi Alex &Chris,
It may be your Hard drive cluster/sectors got corrupted to no going back
(repair), and I think you should get the Hal.DLL is missing or Ntoskrnl and
so.
You Hard drive by the looks of you trying to resolve the issue, has been
suffering from Sever Overheating, which make things PIE inside <G>, before
doing anything, hook this HDD to another PC as salve Drive and copy/rescue
your Data on a Removable storage, then test this HDD health by downloading
the manufacturer of the hDD Diagnostic tools to test.
Perform a clean install is your best option, as this fix will not last or
hold for long!!.
HTH.
