In most cases, the message "ntldr is missing" means that
you left a floppy disk in the floppy disk drive. Remove it
and all will be well!

If this is not the case then you can do this:

1. Format a floppy disk on some Win2000/XP PC.
2. Copy these files from the \i386 folder of your WinXP CD
to the floppy disk:
ntldr
ntdetect.com
3. Create a file a:\boot.ini like so:
[Boot Loader]
Timeout=3
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect

Now boot your problem machine with this floppy, then copy
ntldr from the floppy disk to c:\.

AFAIK, the boot files for all versions of WinXP are the
same.

Unless you have access to a WinXP CD, you're stuck.
I find it difficult to see how one could buy a PC without
also getting all the software media. After all, the PC
hardware is just an empty shell - it's the software that
makes it what it is!
