NTLDR is missing

I have an XPe image deployed to an Industrial PC.
My image is stable, it's an release version that can be booted, cloned, and
used normally.
The question is, after some days of use, during the boot, the message "NTLDR
is missing" is displayed.
The file NTLDR is on the root directory, and was not deleted.
Please, anyone has any idea of what happened???

Why file NTLDR is not "read only" and "hidden" on XPe if it is on XP Pro???

Thanks a lot,

Carlos Vieira

In my HD I have created 2 NTFS partitions, and I use norton ghost (2003) to
clone disks in order to do mass deployment. Ghost command line (create disk,
identical brand, from image file):

ghost.exe -clone,mode=restore,src=r:\sb6000\sb6000dh.gho,dst=1 -sure -batch

Partition 1 is marked as active, and contais the master image. Partition 2
is empty.

Please if anyone has any kind of information, not necessarily related to
this exact case, answer me.
Thanks a lot.

Carlos:

I'm not sure how big your HD, but check out MS KB #Q224526.

A few things about your switches for ghost... since you are not using the
SZE switches, i.e. SZE1=F, then when you deploy ghost is resizing your 2
partitions to divide your disk, i.e. if you have a 50 Gb HD, then both your
partitions would then be 25 Gb. I bet you don't want this to happen ... ;-)

Thanks Doug, but KB #Q224526 refers only to Win NT 4.0, right? I think I
didn't get your point of view.

Thanks for the tips with ghost.

The KB article was simply a FYI, as I just did a quick google search for
ntldr problems. I didn't verify if it applies to XP. I'll leave that to
you... ;-)
