I have been trying to resolve this issue for three days. I have read the
support document on Microsoft's site and it has not resolved the issue.

Please help!

Assuming you have not left a floppy disk in the floppy drive, I would try
disconnnecting the IDE cable of the HD at both ends, and reconnecting, or
installing another IDE cable. If this fails, your drive may be going bad.
Can you boot into safe mode? When did this start happening?

Hi,

Boot the WinXP CD, load the Recovery Console by hitting "r" when prompted.
From the command prompt, run "copy X:\I386\ntldr C:\" (assumes a default
install to C:\, use your actual CD drive letter instead of X). Exit the
Recovery Console, remove the CD and restart the system.
