I have read the posts about the NTLDR missing problem and
the knowledgebase articles but they do not seem to help
with my problem.. I have an 80 GB drive which I
partitioned using Partition magic. I made my boot
partition using NTFS and my other 3 partitions were Fat32.
All of a sudden after using it with no problem for over
a year and doing regular updates and running Norton Anti-
Virus and updating that regularly I started haveing a
problem when I started up my computer. I would get to the
Windows XP screen where you see the flashing bar befor it
goes to the next screen where you select the user. I
cannot get past the flashing bar now... I cannot start it
in safe mode either.. I cannot boot from my XP Pro CD
because I contiually get the message missing NTLDR which I
know is on the CD because I have put the CD in my sons
computer and found the file on the CD.. any and all
suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks!
Jack

Hi,

Boot the WinXP CD, run the Recovery Console. From the command prompt, run:

Copy X:\I386\ntldr C:\

Then remove the CD and restart.

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console in Windows XP [Q307654]

If you are truly booting the CD, having set CD before HD in BIOS, and
confirmed at boot that this is what you intend, then the ntldr on the
hard disk is not involved, and you should get to a screen that invites
either Setup or Repair. Take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any
password requested is blank, and TAB over. and use COPY to put a new
version on the Hard disk - if the CD drive letter is X use
COPY X:\i386\ntldr C:\ntldr
