I created a floppy XP boot disk because my notebook won't start. When I
inserted the disk into my floppy drive, it read the bootini file, but said
the NTLDR file was missing. I got the boot file from bootdisk.com. It won't
boot from the windows xp upgrade cd though I have changed the bios to do so.
I set the bios to read the floppy first, cd second, but it won't boot from
the drive. How do I fix this? Thanks!

After the drive wouldn't boot secondarily, then I reset it to boot first but
that didn't work. It kept asking me to insert cd into drive and hit any key.

Read the floppy disk. See if ntldr is on floppy. (If not, make new boot disk)
copy ntdlr to c:\
Try to boot from hard drive with correct bios settings

Yes, the file was on the floppy. I made sure before I took it home since it
downloaded as a zip file, I unzipped it first and all three files needed were
there. The icon for the file shows the windows logo on mostly white
background. Does that help?

Are you positive that your booting from "Floppy"? You set as first boot from
"floppy" in your BIOS? Did you copy ntldr to HD? What were error messages
when booting to HD? Please answer all questions?

Yes I am positive. I've had this problem before so I know how to set the
order in BIOS. It didn't work. Even after switching the order back to the CD
drive to boot first, it wouldn't read the Windows XP CD. It took a few times,
but I finally got the boot from the CD was finally able to do the repair and
now everything is working again.
