Can I reformat a NTFS hard drive (had WinXP on it) back
to FAT32 (want to put Win 98 on it)
Have done a low level format on HD with Maxtor Powermaxx
but Win 98 setup still recognizes drive as NTFS

Hi Frank
Use a Win98 boot disk. Use Fdisk to delete the partition(s) and Format to
make your FAT32 drive.

Hmmmm. Not sure how after a low level format your drive would still be
formatted as NTFS? You can use the XP CD to reformat as FAT32 or you can use
FDISK off a Windows 98/Me Startup Disk.

To use the XP CD boot off it and select the option to press "R" to repair
with the Recovery Console. If asked for an admin password you can usually
just press the Enter Key. At the command prompt type
FORMAT C: /FS:FAT32

Remove the XP CD and type EXIT to reboot.

Thank you very, very much. Your solution worked.
