NTFS Formatting

I have been told that with NTFS formatting I cannot read
files on my hard drive via a Dos Boot disk. I have two
hard drives (C & D) can I re-format my D Drive from NTFS
to something different in order to allow me to boot up
with a dos boot disk and access the files on that drive.

You may want to try this
http://www.ntfs.com/products.htm You can't reformat your D
drive. It will wipe out any data you have on it.
