NTFS file share with xp home

Hey Folks,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was neccessary
to up grade xp home to xp pro if I intend to share files
at the advanced NTFS level with a peer to peer group of
xp pro machines? Thanks again.

You do not need to upgrade to xp pro. XP home will connect and work with
file shares just fine in a workgroup peer-to-peer network setup.
If you want to turn simple file sharing off on the xp home computer, so it
acts like xp pro with simple file sharing off then check this out:

NO! You need Pro only if you wish the PC to connect/attach to a Windows
server domain.

I'm not sure the op in a a domain network as they said peer-to-peer, but if
they are they can still use domain resources with xp home. True they can't
join the domain, but they can use resources.
Although Windows XP Home cannot join a domain, it is still possible to
access domain resources without the need to specify a username and password
every time. To do this, setup a domain user account on the server with a
non-expiring password. Next, create a local user account on the XP Home
machine with the same username and password as the domain account. Now, the
XP Home machine will have access to the same resources given to the domain
user account.

Peer to peer implies it is NOT a domain situation. From the POV of file
access, Home does not give the detailed control of permissions that Pro
does, but provided the simple level File sharing is enough then all is
well using Home
