NTFS error has crippled my computer. PLEASE HELP!!!

Sam

I'm a musician and was working with a program called
ProTools on my system running Windows XP with Service Pack
1 installed, when the system crashed. Then, when I tried
to restart, disk check came up saying there was an
inconsistency in a NTFS file. It ran through some stuff,
then restarted itself with the option to go into safe mode
or reset to previous settings or start windows as normal.
I tried all the options but it would always restart and go
back to the disk check message again. Finally, Windows
loaded back up. However, I shut down when I was done
working and the next time I turned it on it went to the
disk check NTFS file error again and did the exact same
thing, running in circles between that screen and the
other without ever successfully loading Windows. Then,
even those stopped. Now, all I ever get is a blank
screen. When I turn it on, it does the initial DOS deal
giving some system specs, and then goes to a blank screen
and nothing ever happens. I don't know much about
computers, and four years' work is on this computer and
I'm desperate to get it working again without losing the
files on my hard-drive, so if anyone could help I would
really appreciate it.

Kinda sounds like your disk crashed, does it make and
noises that you don't usually hear?

Check this article here for some help fixing the PC;
http://www.theeldergeek.com/repairing_windows_xp.htm
And try booting to the XP CD to do a repair re-install,
but first run a diagnostic test on your hardware, mostly
for the hard drive.
