Hello,

I set a scheduled job to run every Sunday at 5am. The job overwrites every
tape inserted. It backs up the same information every Sunday. My Problem is
unpon trying to restore these tapes it could not diffentiate the tapes.
There are 13 Tapes Dated for every Sunday. So i cleared out all information
that was in the Ntbackup restore window. Now I need to recatalog the tapes
so that I can restore from them. It is giving me hard time trying recognize
the tapes.

If you understand this.

Pls Help

You should look over the following Microsoft Knowledge
Base Article - 239892. Ntbackup is a very finicky
application and requires setup exactly as MS describes.
The article explains how to issue descriptive names for
your backup jobs and tapes so that you will later be able
to restore. I have been working for over two months
trying to get a daily backup rotation working and it has
been very difficult. Good luck!

Hi Compunow - See if this helps, courtesy of Duncan Elkins:

". . . from the Notes
section under the Catalog heading of ntbackup's help:

Notes
When you insert a tape to be restored, only information on the first
backup set is displayed in the right panel. If you want to restore the
entire tape, you need to load the tape catalog to display a list of any
other backup sets. If you want to know what files are in each backup
set, you need to load the individual catalogs for each backup set.

I can't say it makes a lot of sense to me that the tape is only
partially catalogged when it's mounted, but that appears to be the
case...
