ntbackup.exe

My Iomega REV Atapi drive is not compatible with Win2k ntbackup.exe, but is
with the version in WinXP. Can I copy ntbackup.exe from WinXP into Win2k
Server and use it with my Iomega REV Atapi drive? Will it function in Win2k
Server? All I want to do is schedule an incremental backup rotation
Mon-Thur. and Full backup on Sat. of numerous partitions, E:, F:, G:,...etc.

Thanks

You can't use the XP version of ntbackup in Win2000 server (or Professional,
even). You can run ntbackup in Win2k to a file, though....that file can be
on your REV drive. If you have a server, though, I have to say I'd recommend
tape backup, although it's more expensive.

I've been using a tape drive, but this REV drive was supposed to be faster
and less expensive. Problem is that the Iomega software is useless, so I was
hoping to just use ntbackup. Win2k and ntbackup, however, sees the REV drive
as a CD-ROM (a known issue at Iomega) and, therefore, will not permit me to
write to it as it views it as read only. Catch 22, can't use ntbackup, I
guess either. I'll try to pull "Plan B" out of my hat. Not sure what that
will be yet, but I'll come up with something.

Thanks for your time, anyway.

Iomega use to send me tape drives to beta test on systems, and I have
stacks of drives and card from them - they let you keep the hardware
when the testing is done. I don't use any of it on any machine once the
testing is done. I never found their stuff to be reliable. The only
thing I still have that gets used from time to time is the old SCSI
based Zip 100 drive, had it almost 6 years I think (can't remember), and
it still works (no click of death).

OK - if you can't do a file backup directly to the REV via its drive
letter/path (have you tried this??) do a backup to a file on your hard drive
& then copy it to the REV....you could use a batch file to do all of this.
Presuming the drive letter of the REV doesn't change.

There's a reason good tape drives are expensive - they're worth it. :)
