Is there a way to get NT Backup off an XP Pro CD so I can install that on
Vista since the included backup utility is useless for most common
functions? If so, where is it located?

No you can't use it on a diff operating system. What common functions?? Just
copy your personal files to external media and use backup programs included
in programs, such as Quicken.

Create folder \Program Files\Ntbackup and copy there those files from
your XP installation: ntbackup.exe, ntmsapi.dll, ntmsdba.dll,
vss_ps.dll, vssadmin.exe, and vssapi.dll.

But remember, ntbackup is not compatible with Shadow Copy in Vista, so
you can't backup opened and locked files with it.

Common functions such as backing up specific folders and files (duh)!

I'm not going to go through and individually copy thousands of files every
time i want a backup. And I don't have Quicken or know of other free backup
software that does this. XP used to do this just fine and should be a basic
feature in any decent OS.

I tried that, but it gives me an error and won't backup. I know you said it
wouldn't use shadow copy, but I thought it would back up files that aren't
locked.

Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:Catastrophic failure

Aborting Backup.

Just turn off "use Shadow Copy" in backup advanced options and will work
:-)
