NT 4.0 to W2K Proffesional upgrade problem

hi,
i have dell pentium with 256MB laptop computer.I have NT
4.0 previously.when i am upgrading NT to W2K Proff.after
installing everything in last step before saving the
configuration it is giving following error."WIN.EXE has
created errors".I have so much data i can't format the
system.If this error is not fixable please advise how i
can restore all previous operating system.please reply me
as early as possible...........

this could be a virus. have you scanned your system recently?
