I have a Dell Demension 5150 with XP Pro (including Office 2003), AVG 8.0.175
free, Zone Alarm 7.0.483.000 free, Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6.0 free,
Spyware Blaster 4.1 and AdAware SE 1.06 free.

The problem is I can no longer see non-installed fonts in the Word drop down
menu screen. I used to be able to open and minimize 35 fonts at one time
(before opening Word) with no problem (for making a card). But now, I am
lucky if it works for one font.

The weird thing is I can still do this in Publisher, but I really don't wish
to have to use Gadwin PrintScreen to take a picture (make a jpeg) to place in
a file to upload to Word.

Unless there is an update that has caused this to happen, what can I do to
be able to use Word without installing (and uninstalling) several fonts?

I was able to open noninstalled fonts in ME with Office 2000, too. It's
weird that it works in Publisher 2003, but not Word, although it used to. I'm
guessing that it may have something to do with a security upgrade to either
Windows, Word, AVG, or ZoneAlarm.

I got the idea of using noninstalled .ttf fonts from several people who use
different versions of PSP and Photoshop. All used different versions of Word
and Windows. All were able to do this. I don't know if anyone of those people
are having trouble now, but I haven't heard of this problem.

Thanks,
Joan

Word should only display the installed fonts that the currently active
printer is capable of printing. If you have an existing document that has
used previously installed fonts the font name may still exist, but if the
font is no longer installed, Windows will substitute another font.
If you want to work with only a limited number of installed fonts you should
consider a font management system.

No. The problem is I WAS able to open several .ttf fonts, minimize them so
they would be in the taskbar, then open up Word and be able to use them as
any installed fonts. I then embedded them in the .doc and saved it for later
use. I cannot do so now. It still works in Publisher 2003, just not in Word.
Why?
