Visual: it puts an envelope in the Notification area when you have new mail.
Audio: Tools | Options: Play sound when new mail arrives.
In both cases WinMail has to be running and set to check for new mail every
so often to know that there is new mail.
You can change the sound by right clicking the speaker symbol in the
Notification Area and choosing 'Sounds'. Scroll down to New Mail
Notification and you can change it.
