When I post a new message, there is a place on the right side (one the same
line with new posts that says notify me of replies and when I click on it it

You are having difficulties because you are using the awful web interface to
these groups instead of a newsreader. It is extremely easy to set up a
newsreader and you will get far more out of these newsgroups if you do.
