Notification panel question

Is there a way to prevent an application from having an icon on
the Notification panel (lower right)? I have an email client whose
latest version sends an icon there and it's unneeded, even if hidden.

Usually the software will have that option within its preferences.
 
Try right clicking on the icon for options. Hiding icons in the taskbar is
not for the Notification Area.
