have XPPro SP2. I have several icons of programs I hardly ever use showing
in the Notification Area by the clock. I would like to get rid of most of
them. I have right clicked on Taskbar>Properties. I clicked "Hide inactive
icons the Customize then I clicked Always Hide by each icon I didn't want to
see. Still they show up each time I start the computer. What can I do
Thanks Patti

Double click each of the ones you don't want to open them and look for a
place to turn off the option to run at startup.

The 'Hide inactive icons' has suddenly stopped functioning on my laptop and
the >> sign has vanished even though the 'Hide Inactive icons' is checked on
the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties. I tried the kellys korner fix (line
53, Hide or Show inactive icons) but it still does not work as before i.e.
inactive icons do not hide and the behaviour is similar to as if 'Hide
Inactive icons' is un-checked. Is there a time lag after which it will start
working again ?

Can anybody help with some magic solution !

Some times you have to reboot for the settings to take affect.

Many thanks for your advice. It actually started working after sometime,
without any action on my part. I guess after the Kellys-Korner edit is run,
it takes effect after sometime, unless someone else knows any other reason
for the same.
