Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone could tell me why I keep losing icons in the
taskbar notification area.

Icons such as my internet connection & volume control keep dissapearing. The
volume icon keeps turning itself off (the checkbox in the sound options
keeps un-checking), whilst the 'show internet connection in notification
area' checkbox is always ticked, but the icon does't appear.

This only started happenning last week. Any idea would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ben

Ben;
Try this: right click a blank area of the taskbar/Properties/Customize
button/how are missing icons listed? Always Hide?/Change to Always
show/highlight relevant icon/click the V/when done with all/OK/Apply/OK
Hope this helps. Let us know.

Thanks for your help,

Wesley, I have already fiddled with the taskbar properties, and that doesn't
work. Manually checking the 'show volume icon in notification area' checkbox
seems to turn both the volume and internet connection icon on. However every
time I turn the computer on I have to re-do it.

Kelly - thanks for your help, does this mean that to fix the problem I will
have to log onto the computer each time I turn it on? I could not find the
UPnP windows component that was mentioned on you web page. Logging off and
then logging back on did not work.

You are now probably set to auto-login I bet. I have had
this problem for months on two XP Pro workstations. Ran
into this site:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm

And sure enough it is a failure of the Windows XP
autologin function (logout and back in and all of the
systray icons are there...at least for me). Per the
above article, one work around is turning off uPNP
functionality. Don't know why...but it works....
