Notice that Micorsoft Word has stopped working.

Almost every day, when using Microsoft Office Word, I get the message that
"Microsoft Word has stopped working". A short time later, it I receive the
note that Micosoft Word has resumed working. Can you tell me what kind of a
situation causes this and how can I avoid it?
