NOTEPAD

Yeah I get this error when I try to open up files that
are TEXT based.

X

C:\Documents and Settings\Name\Desktop\vend.txt is not a
valid application.

I used to be able to open up txt files and even some
other TEXT TYPE files with NOTEPAD. But for some reason
the application gives me this error now. So for now I had
to use Wordpad. I would much rather have NOTEPAD working
and accociating all the files I could open before with
NOTEPAD.
Now when I go and right click to properties and then
browse for the right program, I get NOTEPAD but the Icon
has changed. It's almost like Windows has decided the
application directory is no longer valid. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance =)]

Sounds like the "file association" is corrupt. To fix this, open windows
explorer, navigate to some ordinary folder (eg not My Computer), go to
menus:
Tools, Folder Options, File Types.

Then scroll to the TXT extension in the list. The Advanced button (assuming
you're in XP) will allow you to change the designated program which opens
the "Text Document" group of files (which normally includes .TXT, .LOG,
etc). You may need to hunt around in Help to understand this
not-very-intuitive procedure at first.

If you're interested, you can also add things to the right-click menu using
this dialogue.

Wish I had time to give a fuller explanation (sorry!)
